In Memory of Lou Walter

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of former IBEW Local 77 Business Manager Lou Walter. Lou dedicated his life to the labor movement and the principles of the IBEW, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering service, leadership, and advocacy for working people.

Lou initiated as an IBEW member on July 1, 1967, and remained an active member until he retired in January 2022—more than 54 years! A longtime member of Local 77, he served in nearly every leadership role within our union—Recording Secretary, Vice President, President, Business Representative, Assistant Business Manager, and ultimately, Business Manager. His decades of service helped shape the future of Local 77 and strengthened the rights, benefits, and working conditions of countless members.

Lou believed in the power of the union—people standing together to build a stronger future. He often reminded us, “We are not a credit union. We are a labor union.” His leadership embodied that principle, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.

As we mourn his passing, we honor his dedication, his vision, and the countless lives he touched through his tireless work. Rest in power, Brother Lou. Your legacy lives on in the strength of our union.

Lou’s Celebration of Life was held at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Those unable to attend in person can watch it live via the link below. The funeral will start streaming once it begin.

Our thoughts are with Lou’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

In Solidarity,

IBEW Local 77
